Signal to Noise Ratio (SINR)
This is our most important RF metric. The SINR measures how well the useful signal can be distinguished from all other signals. We wrote in other articles that you can enhance your SINR and your speed significantly by reducing noise eg. turning off wifi, phones etc. in your router's environment. Additionally the SINR directly influences which modulation your 5G router will use but we will explain that in another article.
Based on our experiences you can categorise the values as below:
Value | Quality |
> 20dB | Excellent |
> 13dB | Good |
> 5dB | Fair |
> 1dB | Poor |
< 1dB | Very Poor |
Please note that the values are in Decibels (dB) the values are positive and higher values mean better values.
We recommend that you monitor the SINR under load, eg. with a download running to get the most realistic values.
